Tanzania

From the Wild Savanna to the Summit

Rustic Pathways first ventured into Africa in 1996. In 2006 we opened our first summer programs in Tanzania and have been running enriching community service and adventure trips for high school students here ever since. We also offer private trips for groups and families who want to experience the majesty and diversity of Tanzania. From the peak of Mount Kilimanjaro, to the plains of the Serengeti and the beaches of Zanzibar, Tanzania is a quintessential African highlight. We offer summer programs for high school students, fantastic Gap Year programs, and year round customized itineraries for private groups and families.

Packing List

To Help You Come Prepared...

Below is our general packing list of suggested items for all programs in Tanzania. Because of the diversity of our programs, please see the specific program packing list that you are considering. Keep in mind that if you are particiapating in more than one program, there will be some overlap and it is not neccessary to double pack. If you have any questions, please email our Tanzania Country Director jessie@rusticpathways.com

You will be traveling to Tanzania during the dry season, where the days are generally hot, with some humidity. The evenings can cool off but often remain warm. Temperature during the day in the Serengeti is around (60-70) and at night (50-60).  On Zanzibar temperatures during the day are (70-85) and at night (60-65).

Because of religious and cultural traditions on Zanzibar, both males and females should dress modestly when away from the beaches (i.e. covering shoulders and legs down to the knee).

Bring with you any medications that you will need while you are away. You will need to tell staff what medications you have brought during your orientation period. This is done privately, but it is essential that you disclose to your staff all medications you are carrying.

Pack lightly for your journey! Most intra-African airlines will not allow a checked bag weighing more than 15 kilos, so please pack accordingly. Please check your domestic carrier in the USA for any baggage limitations or fees. You must also be able to carry and load your own luggage, and space in the vehicles is limited.

Be sure to wear your Rustic Pathways T-Shirt when you are travelling to and from Tanzania!
