The People

The people in this region of the world are truly warm-hearted and welcoming. Throughout Thailand, and in the rural ‘Issan’ area in particular, you’ll find that everyone is quick to smile and offer a sincere ‘sawat dee’ as they pass by. In the village, strangers are treated as honored guests and welcomed as long lost guests. A tropical pace of life permeates everything, and unlike at home everybody always has time to stop for a chat, sit down for a meal, and of course smell the roses. For all you may have heard about ‘village life’, Baan Chiang Yoon is it. Community life is alive and  well in Thailand, and it is such a refreshing experience - neighbors are always around when you need anything; the local convenience store and restaurant is just 20 yards away; everybody looks after the playing children as their own. An umbrella steadily bumbles down a quiet street, shading a smiley elderly woman; the smell of fresh BBQ chicken fills the air; children hop on their bikes and race off to the store for an ice cream, clutching coins and laughing as they go. Life here is comfortable and easy, and one gets the feeling that a little time here would be good for just about everyone.
