Chiang Yeun Village

Located about 15 minutes away from Udon Thani Airport, 20 minutes away from the center of Udon Thani, and a short ride from the local hospital, Chiang Yeun Village enjoys the benefits of being easy to reach and just a short ride from a major city and modern facilities. At the same time, it is well secluded in the countryside and would be just about impossible for the unknowing visitor to stumble upon. Udon Thani itself receives very few visitors, with most stopping by for a day or two on their way to Laos. This lack of tourism means that life in this region is very traditional, as people have not altered their lives to accommodate money-spending tourists.

Chiang Yeun Village is home to several schools and temples that are only a short walk away from the Base where  Rustic Pathways has been doing service projects for several years. There is a bustling local market, open fields which are home to both grazing cows and evening soccer games, and a few scattered snack shops, barber shops, and cell phone stores, all in the comfort of each shopkeeper’s home. There are also many food stalls selling delicious local food and cool fruit drinks. Everyone in the village is quick to offer a smile to you as you pass by. The many smiling children here may be shy at first, but as soon as you’ve passed by, they’re quick to shout out “Hello!”, “Thank you!” and “My name is” in excitement, and compete for your attention as you walk away. Chiang Yeun Village is truly is a warm and welcoming place to be.
