Almost all Rustic Pathways programs interconnect! Many of our students take advantage of this by combining several programs - and often several countries - to build their perfect summer. Many Rustic Pathways students combine their programs in Australia with one or more of our great programs in The Fiji Islands and/or New Zealand. Most programs have numerous departure dates which allow students the flexibility to travel at their convenience. We strongly encourage students to take advantage of their time in this fascinating part of the world!
Combining Programs in Australia with Programs in The Fiji Islands and New Zealand:
Rustic Pathways uses Qantas, Air New Zealand, Pacific Blue, and/or Virgin Blue Airlines to connect countries in The South Pacific. When planning a combination in The South Pacific, you should first consider the program dates to ensure the trips will connect. If you have flexibility with dates, to maximize your time on programs and reduce travel time, we suggest the following order if you are looking to connect between countries.
If you are combining Australia with Fiji, we suggest you go to Fiji first and then on to Australia.
If you are combining Australia with New Zealand, we suggest you go to New Zealand first then to Australia.
If you are doing programs in Australia, Fiji and New Zealand, the "South Pacific Trifecta" then we suggest the sequence of your trip would be first to Fiji, then to New Zealand, and then on to Australia.

Combining Programs in Australia with Programs in Mainland Asia:
If you are combining Australia with any programs in Asia (Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Burma, China, Vietnam), you will typically do your Australia program(s) first and then follow with programs in Asia. Please contact us at australia@rusticpathways.com if you are interested in connecting to a program in Asia for further details and estimated airfare.
Combining Programs in Australia with Programs in Latin or South America:
If you are looking to connect to programs in Latin and South America, you will first be routed back through the United States. We do this so you can repack your bags and join your group and flight leader with greater ease, efficiency and safety. Please refer to the Latin/South America flight information to estimate the additional.

Rustic Pathways uses several carriers to The South Pacific depending on each student's individual itinerary. Our primary carriers to our South Pacific destinations are Air Pacific (the national airline of The Fiji Islands), V Australia (part of the Virgin Airlines Group), Qantas Airlines, and Air New Zealand. You will be advised of your specific airline arrangements closer to your date of travel.
Within 12 hours of students reaching their program destinations, a safe arrival email is sent to their parents confirming the students' safe arrival overseas. Just one more way that we try to increase transparency and help you understand that your son or daughter is just as important to us as he/she is to you.
The airfares listed on the country pages are estimates only, and all airfares are subject to change without notice. Late applicants are sometimes unable to secure seats on our group flights or obtain the airfares indicated here. All airfares are subject to taxes, airport fees and fuel surcharges which vary according to airline and destination, and which are beyond our control. Rustic Pathways reserves the right to pass along any increases in these costs should this become necessary.
Students traveling to Fiji are responsible for getting to Los Angeles on their own. Due to frequent domestic airline delays pertaining to weather or mechanical problems, we require that you arrive in Los Angeles a minimum of 4 hours prior to the scheduled departure time of the group flight.
All students not beginning their journey in Los Angeles must pick up their bags from their domestic flights and recheck them for our international group flights. Please allow yourself enough time to pick up and check in your bags to our international group flights.
