Did you know?

The Dominican Republic occupies two thirds of the island of Hispaniola, with the western third occupied by the nation of Haiti. The Dominican Republic is home to the first European settlement in the Americas, Santo Domingo. In addition to being the country’s capital, Santo Domingo boasts many firsts, including the first cathedral, the first university, and the first hospital in the Americas. The island was inhabited for thousands of years by the Taino people prior to its colonial prominence upon Spanish arrival in 1492. A popular travel spot for Europeans and Americans alike, the Dominican Republic offers a diverse ecosystem and a unique blend of cultural attractions ideal for travelers of any age.  Visitors are invited to experience the turquoise waters, white sand beaches, lush mountains, or arid lowlands. Baseball is part of the Dominican national identity and pickup games with local kids are a daily occurrence. Moreover, the Dominican Republic is home to some of the best baseball players in the world, boasting 50 active Major League Baseball players.
