Climbing Kili

Journey to the Top of Africa
Mount Kilimanjaro rises majestically above the vast expanse of Northern Tanzania’s savannahs and issues a silent challenge to all who gaze at it from across the plains. Become one of the few climbers who has reached the top of this mighty mountain and soak up the views bestowed on those brave and determined enough to reach the summit. We are proud to offer this exciting six-day trek to a limited number of students.

Are You Ready For This?
Mount Kilimanjaro is Africa’s highest peak and the world’s tallest freestanding volcano. Its snow-capped summit is a jaw-dropping 19,340 feet in elevation and offers panoramic views of some of East Africa’s most famous sights, including Amboseli National Park in Kenya, the Rift Valley, and the Masaai Steppe.

Your journey will begin in Arusha, a small town in the northern highlands of Tanzania that is tucked beneath the twin peaks of Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru. During the following six days, you will trek up the famous Marangu Route, a non-technical climb that anyone with good physical and mental fitness can conquer. You won’t need any ropes or climbing equipment to make it to the top, just the drive and resolve to be a part of this great adventure. We’ll make reaching the ‘rooftop of Africa’ a realistic and attainable goal. A team of professional guides, cooks and porters will accompany you to the top, and your group will pace itself and acclimate along the way.

The Ascent Begins
Once on the trail, you’ll hike between four and six hours each day. The first two days will carry you through thick lowland forest. Soon the air will begin to thin as the brush gives way to alpine meadows. The thin air at this altitude nourishes an unusual variety of vegetation, and by this point you will have expansive views of the vast plains beneath you. After a few nights sleeping on the mountain to acclimate, you will begin the summit. You’ll wake up in the middle of the night to get a head start on this final day of climbing. The stars will gradually fade as the air begins to warm with the rising sun. As you near the summit, your adrenaline will start to pump. When you finally reach the top, you’ll celebrate your accomplishment with your fellow climbers. This is the adventure of a lifetime!

Midnight on the Mountain
You will spend nights on the mountain in huts along the Marangu Route. Get to know your group over hearty dinners and sleep beneath a clear sky that is home to millions of glittering stars. Once you have reached the summit, a sense of pride at your achievement will carry you back down the mountain, and you’ll enjoy breathtaking views of the African landscape along the way. The journey will come to an end back in Arusha with a farewell feast of mouth-watering local cuisine.
