About International Travel Costs
The airfares listed on these pages are estimates only, and all airfares are subject to change without notice. Late applicants are sometimes unable to secure seats on our group flights or obtain the airfares indicated here. All airfares are subject to taxes, airport fees and fuel surcharges which vary according to airline and destination, and which are beyond our control. Rustic Pathways reserves the right to pass along any increases in these costs should this become necessary.
Our Programs are Designed to be Combined!
Almost all Rustic Pathways programs interconnect! Many of our students take advantage of this by combining several programs – and often several countries – to build their perfect summer. Most programs have numerous departure dates which allows students the flexibility to travel at their convenience. Sometimes it may appear that particular programs do not connect with each other, missing by one or two days. This is usually not the case, and the apparent misconnection is almost always caused by travel which crosses the International Date Line. Please contact us if you have any questions at all about airfare costs or trip connectivity.
Why We Arrange All International Flights
To ensure that our programs operate in a safe and orderly manner, Rustic Pathways makes all arrangements for students’ international air travel from the time they leave North America until the time they return at the end of a successful adventure. There are only two exceptions to this: students who live outside North America may be asked to arrange their own international air travel, and students who apply very late in the season may be required to make their own airfare arrangements when group seats on escorted flights are no longer available. Our programs span the globe, and the logistics of moving groups of young people safely and efficiently around the world requires that we control their flight arrangements in all but exceptional cases. The safety of our students is always our primary consideration. We do not allow parents to make their own air travel arrangements as this causes very real logistical problems for us, and puts their children unnecessarily at risk.

All students spend their first night in Costa Rica in the Rustic Pathways orientation base before beginning their programs on Wednesday, the cost of this extra day is included in the airfare costs above.
Escorted nonstop group flights depart from both Newark and Houston every Tuesday and return to Newark and Houston every Wednesday. Flight leaders escort all flights between both our Newark and Houston hubs and Costa Rica.
Students can begin their trip from any US airport served by Continental Airlines. Rustic Pathways will ticket students from the airport they select to either our Houston or Newark hubs where they will meet their flight leader and join their escorted group flight to San Jose, Costa Rica. Students can depart from one USA airport and return to another USA airport for a small additional charge.
Students wishing to combine a Costa Rica trip with a Rustic Pathways trip in another country should do their Costa Rica programs first. They will then travel from Costa Rica directly to the gateway for their next Rustic Pathways program.
Visas are not required for US citizens.

Visa Requirements
Thailand does not require visas for US citizens unless your stay exceeds 30 days. If your stay is longer than 30 days, we will arrange a second 30-day visa waiver for you during your stay.
Laos requires a visa for US citizens which we will obtain for all students as we enter Laos. The cost for this visa service is $ 65.

Escorted group flights depart Los Angeles every Tuesday and return to Los Angeles every Thursday. Flight leaders escort all flights between Los Angeles and our Vietnam programs.
Students can easily connect between their program in Vietnam and any other exciting Rustic Pathways programs in Thailand, China, Cambodia, India, or The South Pacific.
Visas are required. Further information about obtaining visas will be provided by Rustic Pathways with your acceptance letter. |

It is often more economical & convenient for students combining India programs with Asia or South Pacific programs to use Singapore Airlines for their initial international flights. Our Travel Desk will contact you with the airline routing which best suits your program itinerary. |

Escorted nonstop group flights depart from the USA every Tuesday and return to the USA every Wednesday. Flight leaders escort all flights between Houston and Lima, Peru.
Students can begin their trip from any US airport served by Continental Airlines. Rustic Pathways will ticket students from the airport they select to Houston where they will meet their flight leader and join their escorted group flight to Lima, Peru. Students can depart from one USA airport and
return to another USA airport for a small additional charge.
Students wishing to combine a Peru trip with any of Rustic Pathways programs in Asia, The South Pacific or Africa should consider doing their Peru program first to more easily connect to any of these other destinations.
Visas are not required for US citizens.

You will be responsible for making all of your flight arrangements. Please email us a copy of your flight itinerary as soon as it is available. This will ensure that we have the appropriate staff at the airport when you arrive in New Orleans.
Students should arrive into and depart New Orleans between 12pm – 4pm on both their arrival date and their departure date. If they arrive or depart outside of this four hour window, a transportation fee will be assessed to their account (each way). |

Rustic Pathways has responsible flight leaders who serve as escorts and chaperones on almost all of our international group flights. Flight leaders receive heavily discounted international air travel in exchange for supervising and escorting our students. We have very high standards and requirements for our flight leaders.
